Thank you Newton Baby for providing the mattress for this review. All opinions are my own – it was my ideal mattress from the start!
I don’t know about other mamas, but it’s like I had an alter type-a ego that came out when I found out that I was about to be a mother. I’ve never researched and planned more than I did for every decision we made leading up to her (and since her arrival). That especially came into play when it came to things she would be using extensively, like bottles and a crib mattress.
From the get-go, when I started to research what mattress we wanted for our little girl, Newton Baby was on the top of our list. It checked off literally every single thing I wanted in a mattress. It’s lightweight, meaning my weak new-mom arms can handle changing it quite easily. It’s washable (like, the whole thing!), making it baby-proof for those accidents. It’s 2-stage, perfect for Scarlett as a newborn and transitioning with her into the toddler years. It’s also hypoallergenic; I’m hoping she never has to worry with my allergies, though!
Most importantly, however, is the fact that this crib mattress is breathable. You can literally smush your face right in it and still be able to breathe. Trust me, I’ve tried it! The #breathe2believe challenge proved successful for me! That is SO, so great, as one of my biggest fears for her is SIDS. Like I’m sure many moms are, I’m completely paranoid about what may happen to her when I’m not right next to her. Especially as she gets bigger and tosses and turns while sleeping, this will provide so much relief for me. It already does! The breathability also helps regulate body temperature, helping her stay asleep longer.
There is an endless number of things to worry about as a new parent, and being able to breath easy with this (pun intended;)) was one of the top reasons we wanted it. Our nursery is in the opposite corner of the house from our bedroom – I want to be able to sleep in my room soundly, knowing that Scarlett is sleeping in her room safely.
Scarlett definitely sleeps easier in something moving right now, and we have her temporarily sleeping at night in our room. To make it so that it’s easier to move her to the crib, I’ve begun having her take naps in there in the afternoon. I thought this would start off as a battle, but she amazed me as the first time I put her down on the mattress, she soothed herself to sleep! I haven’t had a problem with her sleeping in there yet – something I definitely consider a blessing!
It is absolutely precious, seeing such a tiny thing on such a big mattress. I am all for anything that helps to protect my little girl, and Newton Baby does just that. She already loves it, and so do we!
