Growing Into a Style

High School Emily would have laughed out loud at this outfit. Tucked in top, in shorts that aren’t meant to be high waisted? Not a chance. But High School Emily didn’t necessarily have to worry about metabolism slowing down or shorts being too short (not that they were then… but still, teacher status here). And y’all, this has become my favorite outfit for those days when I’m not feeling too confident in the visibility of my stomach. Truth be told, I really think it has to do with the size of the shorts. Which also happens to have colors starting at $8… no lie.

Does this outfit necessarily elongate me? No. But it does flatter my waist, which I’d vote is worth it to skimp on the added illusion of height. I also think this outfit would be really cute made even more laid back with the addition of a ball cap, I just can’t rock those (#curlyhairproblems).

On another note, I should have done a better job tucking my shirt in, but that’s what I get for changing in a car. 🙈😳Also, these Kendra Scott earrings? Thanks to Rocksbox being one of the best subscription services ever, I got them for a whopping $9. They are originally $55! The necklace and these earrings are, reluctantly, the only things I’ve kept from my Rocksbox, not for lack of want though. Feel like giving it a try? Use darlingdearestblogxoxo” to get a month free!

Friends, how is your summer going? I’m finally home from two absolutely wonderful weeks of vacation. It feels so good to not have an agenda right now. Fingers crossed that this will mean the return of a normal blogging schedule and an a bit more engagement on my side of things:)!

Those shorts are so flattering, which is hard for me to find personally!

  • I NEVER wore shorts in high school because I was so self-conscious about my legs. I still don’t love shorts on me but it’s too hot to worry about that sometimes. Isn’t nice gaining confidence as you get older?

  • This is such a cute, classic summer look, and I like the way the top looks tucked in! It’s always an adjustment getting back after a vacation, but I hope you had a wonderful time!!

I love this! Looks fabulous, love the color combinations and the braided belt. Old Navy has the best shorts at the best prices-and yes they certainly look great even though we are not the same size we were in high school!

Evolving personal style is so interesting. Age and oh the kids…both play such a role in what you wear and how you wear it!! Metabolism and post pregnancies affect us so significantly but you grow wiser with age too, which I am so GRATEFUL for even more. YOU LOOK FABULOUS!!!! Those shorts are PERFECT
