An Outfit and a Story

So, I have a story for y’all. It started with asking something of my husband, as many stories do.

We get home from school around 4 and the sun sets here around 5. That leaves us approximately one hour to get prepped, drive to a location, and take pictures. Brett and I were chasing down the sun to get these in before meeting his family for a birthday dinner. You can tell from what’s above that there was quite the view behind us. Picture taking, while slightly dark, resulted in watching the sunset with my husband.

We leave Moses Cone Manor and have close to an hour to burn before meeting for dinner. We head into Blowing Rock for some window shopping, but see Chetola Resort lit up for Christmas along the way. We opted to stop in to Timberlake’s Restaurant for drinks at the bar and were fortunate to catch them on a night with live jazz. [If you are a local to the area or enjoy traveling to the High Country- I highly recommend this!] There was only one set of two seats at the end, so Brett and I made ourselves comfortable.

I noticed the couple beside us was sporting some great App gear, so logically, I complimented them. Lo and behold, this started a conversation that lasted our duration at the restaurant. We discovered that their son was a [well-known] football player at App State and learned about the many wonderful members of their family. They showed such an appreciation for us as teachers and demonstrated an interest in our day-to-day lives. I know it’s such a cliche, but time truly flew by as we were enjoying ourselves so much!

The time came around for us to rush off to our dinner plans, but both Brett and I were reluctant to leave. We asked for our check and were preparing to pay for it when we saw it snatched away from us. The couple had taken our check and all they asked in return was to “keep teaching.” Brett and I were in awe of their kindness to a young couple they had just met. We left the restaurant with such warm, full hearts.

Brett and I have been very fortunate for the conversations that we’ve had with people we’ve met on our adventures. I love experiencing this with my husband. I love seeing what can happen starting from just a small compliment. One common ground, and two days were made. I might be overstepping my reach, but the world can use more of this.

Long story short – ha – these pictures led to a wonderful night. It continued on to many fun events. The night was truly one for the books. I might just start considering this outfit lucky:)
