Shop Small: Jake Ford Ceramics

You guys. I am SO. STINKIN’. EXCITED. for today’s post! This kicks off a series featuring different small businesses. I’ve wanted to incorporate this onto the blog for quite some time and just hadn’t known where to start! When I saw that a friend from college was restocking his Etsy store, it provided the perfect opportunity to promote someone SO worth promoting while also getting the word out. I also might maybe may have a discount code for you, so definitely don’t miss out on that;)!

Let me introduce you to Jake Ford. Jake is an art teacher in Cabarrus County, North Carolina whose crazy great talent created this small business for us to enjoy! Pottery isn’t easy, especially when it comes to making something so incredibly smooth and professional. But knowing that these mugs are handmade? It makes it look easy, how masterful and perfect they are. You can tell how much Jake enjoys it through the different creations that he makes and the fun he has experimenting with them. Truth be told, his talent is that insane kind that could make a mistake look purposeful.

Pottery pieces like these are a true treasure. Each one is one-of-a-kind, meticulously made. It’s a little breathtaking to think that something so beautiful can come from a lump of clay! I’m particularly partial to this size of mug as well – it’s not the too-big kind where your coffee gets cold by the time you finish, but big enough to hold a perfect amount. It’s a dream of a tea mug! Jake offers mugs of different shapes in his shop, kind of like the two below. Each mug is individually listed, so you can pick the exact one that you love.

You guys know I have a thing for mugs… I have a page on this blog entirely dedicated to them. I honestly don’t know how Jake doesn’t keep them all for himself; goodness knows I’m falling in love with all of them! These handmade mugs would also make the best gifts, especially for teachers. It’s thoughtful, classic, timeless, and is something they’ll actually use. Jake does custom orders, and you’re more than welcome to reach out to him at jake@jakefordceramics.com!

Quite possibly one of my favorite creations he has listed are these darling watermelon mugs! He’s also made matching watermelon bowls that are calling to be filled with ice cream or fresh cut fruit. They’re pretty much perfect. How could you use this mug without a smile on your face?

You guys know I love the idea of supporting small businesses, especially when they are owned by a teacher like me. The best thing is that these mugs are so reasonably priced, especially for the quality!  And because Jake is the best, he’s even offering you guys, my readers, a discount! Use the code “darlingdearest” and you’ll get $5 off a purchase of $25 or more!
