If only you could hear a picture🥰. We used to have to work so hard to get smiles out of Scarlett, let alone laughs. But this kid? His general nature is full of joy- which made the months following his first major eczema breakout so stark of a difference. You guys, it hurts my heart to think that I originally wanted two girls! This little boy- he melts me. He melts all of us, including his feisty sister! #thosecheeksthough 😍🤗

I have so much love for these people. Our children? There are times when it feels like it physically hurts because I love them so much, where my heart doesn’t seem like it’s able to contain it. And to know, my God loves them more. My God loves ME more. I can’t imagine willingly putting one of them at risk, willingly letting them suffer for the sake of others, yet that’s what our God did for us in His son. What joy it is, that we are so loved. What a sacrifice, but oh what a reward! I pray that we’re able to show these two a glimpse at how much Jesus loves them - at how treasured and worthy they are! Happy Easter, friends!

Here’s to the kickoff of holiday season! 🥰🎃🦃🎄 Scarlett has sooooo many seasonal outfits to wear and I just. can’t. wait 😍 Pretty sure she has something Christmasy to wear every day in December 🙈. Thank goodness she also loves taking pictures with her brother cause this mama is going to soak up alllll the sibling love I can get while it’s there 😅🥰! Scarlett’s developed a habit lately of saying the words, “I can’t.”

“I can’t do it, Mama.”

“Mama, I can’t.”

It was a bit of a shock to my husband and me, who also noticed it, as she’s fiercely independent and wants to try to do everything herself. I kept trying to figure out where this phrase was coming from and why she was saying it.

Imagine my utter devastation when I realized she was getting it from me.

“Mama, I want to pour your coffee for you!”
“No, baby, you can’t.”
“Mama, I want to give this (food) to baby brother!”
“No, honey, you can’t.”
Sometimes it’s watching a tv show, or wanting to go outside when it’s raining, or wanting to climb on something that’s not meant to be climbed on, or opening a pretend bottle that isn’t made to be opened. But goodness, how heartbreaking it is to realize the word choice I use to stop these things was teaching my daughter to say “I can’t.” And instead of applying it to the situations I used it in, she was applying it to small tasks, like opening containers or putting diapers in stuffed animals or making objects out of blocks. Things that were slightly harder than normal, that would possibly make her frustrated if she had to persist.

It’s easy for me to say “you can’t.” It takes time and thought to compose a different response to whatever she’s asking or trying, one that’s more forgiving and explanatory, that eliminates negative language. But if my 2 year old has already mastered the phrase, “I can’t,” then I think that’s time much well spent.

All this to say, how we talk to our kids matters. Now excuse me while I go teach my daughter the importance of the word “yet.”

I have so much love for these people. Our children? There are times when it feels like it physically hurts because I love them so much, where my heart doesn’t seem like it’s able to contain it. And to know, my God loves them more. My God loves ME more. Y’all, my two year old drives me crazy a lot of these days, but goodness does she melt my heart even more. She loves her baby brother, and at least so far (🤞🏼🤞🏼) she loves being a big sister! That’s made this transition so much easier- the patience she has when I’m nursing or her willingness to help grab things for him (read: his paci when it falls out 173628 times a day🙈). Here’s to some serious prayers that this relationship continues, because nothing fills this mamas heart up more than any bit of love she show’s him.

Took me like 3 weeks to share it, but a 2nd trimester bumpdate is up on the blog! 🤰🏼It was a doozy😅 but we’re that much closer to meeting baby boy🙌🏼! I actually had Scarlett 6 weeks exactly from where I am today. I feel like he’ll come later that she did, but what do I know? 😂😳 Might’ve started freaking out a little today at what all we need to do/buy/decide on by the time he gets here, but that’s the norm for this phase too, right? At least we have a name 😏☺️ #pregnancy #boymom #motherhood

Mamas, what’s your favorite thing about this quarantine period?
I feel like there are a lot of things I could so easily take for granted about this phase. I swear, it feels like Scarlett has grown more in the last month than she has yet! Devoting every day to just fostering her play and imagination does wonders to help her learn. The little conversations she has with her “friends” and the situations she dreams up.... I just love it! I love that I get to soak up this time of just her before baby brother comes. I also know that when this phase is over and the real world kicks back up, the first time I’m away from my girl, I’m going to have serious withdrawals 🙈! #mamasgirl
