“I am confident of this, that the one who began a good work among you will bring it to completion by the day of Jesus Christ.”
Philippians 1:6 NRSV
Other translations replace among with in. A good work in you. I’ve always interpreted this as your life being a good work, meaning that he continues to work in you and for you, all the days of your life.
I still think it refers to that primarily. But I think you can also relate it to specific events or time periods in your life. Because if he’s placed something in your life, he’s going to use it to its completion too, until he’s ready for it not to be a part of your life. He does things with purpose and intention, especially when it pertains to someone he loves so much.
That verse rings true right now, as I’m constantly battling with my role as a blogger. More than anything, I’ve learned that to live by this verse requires a whole lot of trust. Isn’t that what confidence in something is? A solid amount of trust? And if I don’t feel like the time has come, if my gut isn’t telling me that, then I have to trust that the Lord still has work to do.
In jobs, in relationships or friendships, in personality changes and hobbies and adventures, each of these has its own role to play. A role that God intended and wanted it to have for you. All you have to do is trust that it will play that role. Live your life with a heart for the Lord, and he will make his work good and allow it to come to completion.
