The Best Things to Do in Downtown Greenville

My heart was taken a little bit by Greenville, South Carolina. I’ve heard many people speak highly of it before, but hearing about and experiencing are two completely different things.

Darling, Dearest

This little chambray dress was the perfect thing to wear out and about exploring downtown. It’s super comfortable, lightweight, and casual enough that you can wear it just about anywhere. I typically buy a medium at Old Navy, but this dress definitely worked better as a small. Y’all, Old Navy currently has the cutest selection of dresses out for spring. I want to buy them all and have as many picnics as possible:).

What to Do in Downtown Greenville

One. Eat Outside. Greenville already has some wonderful restaurants. Throw in the ability to eat outside and enjoy a pretty day or live music? You are guaranteed a relaxing time. While there are many options for this, I can personally testify for Smoke on the Water – it was delicious! (You can even go on a culinary tour to try five of Greenville’s restaurants!)

Two. Explore the waterfall and river at Liberty Bridge and Falls Park. Even better, go for a picnic. Not many cities have an area like this for you to explore. There are plenty of walking trails or areas to kick back and relax. I desperately wished that I had a book with me to camp out on a rock and pass the day away.

Three. Try your hand at whiskey tasting at Dark Corner Distillery. Whether you like the smooth taste of bourbon and whiskey neat or prefer it in a mixed drink like I do, you get a good feel for both types here.

Four. Catch a show at the Peace Center. That’s home to many of the cities performing arts, so you’d have to check the listings to see what’s coming up. It includes plays, symphonies, ballets, and concerts.

Five. Shop. There literally is every type of store within a couple of blocks of each other. Interested in any type of cooking? Oil & Vinegar will definitely have a spice or sauce for you (bonus: you get to try them in store!). Want to get a little of that mountain feel? Greenville has it’s own Mast General Store. Book lover like myself? There is more than one bookstore to explore. They’ve got all sorts of clothing stores, sport apparel shops, even a shop featuring Carolina based goods. If that isn’t enough for you, there are even outlets near by.

Have kids? If they are a fan of Goodnight Moon like me, you definitely should have them explore Mice on Main! There are nine mice hidden throughout the downtown area, with clues for the kids to use to find them! (I found this out after we had left Greenville, or else I most certainly would have participated in it as well!)

While we were there during the middle of the week, we heard that Fridays are a happening place downtown. Apparently, you’ll often find live music and entertainment happening on Main Street. Many of the sales clerks that we met recommended this to us, and were clearly proud to live here.

Have any other recommendations for this cute city? I’d love to hear them!
